Samford Signs Tulane Transfer Collin Holloway

In what will be a busy offseason for the defending Southern Conference champions, we have our first Samford men’s basketball addition. Samford head coach Bucky McMillan and staff are officially on the transfer portal board in signing former Tulane forward Collin Holloway.

Holloway averaged 12.8 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game last season. He comes to Samford with one year to play after starting his career at Georgetown before Tulane. Holloway also scored in double figures 21 times while starting every game for the Green Wave.

The 6’6'' forward had the best season of his career last year shooting 50% from the floor. His season-high in points was 26 against Fordham. In American Athletic Conference play, he had a high of 24 points in a win over Wichita State.

Holloway also had 18 points in Tulane’s double overtime victory over Furman.

Holloway will look to fill the void of Jermaine Marshall as a player who can play the three or four and use his physicality. In watching him, he is very tough and plays hard. He mainly looks to get to the rim and is very successful inside the three-point line.

He finished second on the team in offensive rating per KenPom while shooting 56% from the floor on twos per KenPom. Holloway only attempted 59 threes last season, however, he is used to playing at a fast pace. Tulane finished 11th in adjusted tempo while Samford finished eighth in the entire country. So, it should not take long for him to get acclimated playing in this Bucky Ball offense.

Holloway also got the special chance to represent his country as he played for Team USA in the 2023 World University Games.

There is one interesting connection between Collin Holloway and a Samford alum. Holloway went to Port Allen High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, Holloway played for head coach and second cousin Derrick Jones. Jones played college basketball at Samford from 1999-2001 when Samford made the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2000.

Their connection was documented here in an article by The Advocate in Louisiana.

Jones was an assistant coach under Jimmy Tillette at Samford from 2005-2008. Here was Jones on Twitter excited about the move for Holloway and praise for how the Samford coaching staff went about recruiting Holloway.

Samford still has five open scholarships for next season but this is a great first step.
